Decent Work Forum “justice for workers, climate justice”
Ghana (West Africa)
INVITATION TO DECENT WORK FORUM
Economic growth without employment is a major concern especially for workers and their leaders. Growing unemployment and underemployment especially in developing countries are depriving working populations of decent work. The world is even more scandalized by the gross and ever-growing inequities in social and economic conditions between and within countries. Poverty reduction targets are far from being realised.
Social injustices are manifold in the realities of a world in which climate change is compounding inequalities and bringing into play new layers of injustices. On the one hand, African and other developing countries which have made the least contribution to the historical accumulation of GHG, are the ones who are hardest hit by extreme weather conditions. On the other hand various mitigation and adaptation responses being negotiated and implemented at the global, continental, regional, national and sub-national levels could compound the inequalities and injustices, and undermine the quest for decent work.
It is against this backdrop that this year’s World Day for Decent Work (WDDW) is being observed with the theme/motto “justice for workers, climate justice”.
You are therefore requested to nominate 2 persons to represent your Union at the FORUM scheduled for Tuesday 7th October, 2014, 09.00 am, at the TUC Conference Hall.
